Athletes Do Well at High School Provincial Track and Field Championships - June 2, 2012

On Saturday, June 2, Heather Berzins and Mackenzie Ebel were up in Edmonton competing at the 2012 Provincial High School Championships. Mackenzie came in an admirable 9th in the Junior Girls 100m while Heather Berzins captured another silver medal in the Intermediate Girls Discus. Congratulations to both of these participants.

Warner Hot Lunch Change from May 29 to May 30
Warner School would like all of our parents to know that we have had to make a change to our hot lunch program. We are moving the hot lunch from May 29 to May 30. We apologize if this causes any of our families an inconvenience.
Dinner Theatre Potluck in Warner

Once again, Warner School is proud to partner with the Warner Seniors to offer a great night of community entertainment by offering a potluck supper at 5:00pm then an evening of drama with the Warner School Drama Club. It promises to be a great evening of entertainment as they put on musical comedy show entitled "The 25th Annual Warner Spelling Bee" The show starts at 6:30 and we look forward to a great turnout from our community.
St. Patrick's Day Clover Leaf Hunt - March 16, 2012
The School Improvement Committee pulled off another wonderful event having the first ever Clover Leaf Clue Hunt. All 115 students took part in the hunt looking for 8 magical clover leaf prizes. All groups completed the course in the required amount of time and all students were treated to a prize that could only be found at the end of the rainbow. Congratulations goes out to the School Improvement Committee for their excellent work on this project!!!
Community Potluck & Magic Show

Warner School is proud to partner with the Warner Seniors to offer a great night of community connecting by offering a potluck supper and free magic show. The supper starts at 5:00 with the Magic Show starting at 6:00pm. We also want to offer our parents a small moment to relax after supper by offering some child sitting services from 5:30 to 6:00 to keep all of our young anxious ones entertained until the big event.
PARENT EVENING
A "Parent Evening" for parents and caregivers of youth (gr. 9-12) with special needs/learning disabilities is being held on Thursday March 22 at 7:00-9:00 pm in the cafeteria at Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge. Over 30 community agencies that assist youth as they transition to adulthood will be represented and information about accessing services will be shared. All that feel they would benefit or are interested in more information are welcome to attend. If you would like more information on the meeting please feel free to contact Mr. Makoloski @ 403-642-3931.
Warner Doing Well at Zone Curling - February 15, 2012
The curling program paid off with our senior mixed team went to Zones and did very well. They ended up second in their pool with a 1-1 record. They advanced past their semi final game with a 9-4 victory over a team from Bow Island. Unfortunately, the team lost a nail biter in extra ends to Willow Creek, the eventual Zone Mixed Champions. In their final game, our team managed two four enders on its way to capturing the bronze medal!!! Way to go Warriors!!
Warner Curling Club Going Strong, Open House Planned for February 27, 2012 @ 4:00pm
The Warner School Curling Club is going strong in Warner. We have over 20 curlers involved in the program and much improvement is being seen week to week. The Warner Curling Club is also excited to be hosting an open house on February 27th. The event will start at 5:00pm and is open to all students Grades 4 to 12. Please come on out and support this school program in its inaugural year. Thank you to all of our sponsors and we look forward to this great night of curling!!

Winter at Writing on Stone-Jan 12, 2012
Come and join staff at the Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park Vistor Centre for the annual "Winter at WOS" celebration! Saturday February 4, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00pm (scheduled activities @ 2:00 and 3:00 pm)
Weather dependent, we will be offering short snowshoe excursions or a nature hike. There will also be hot cocoa around a blazing bonfire.
(No fee. Donations accepted for craft costs.)

Huge Turnout for the 2011 Christmas Concert

The Christmas concert went over with great success. We had over 160 people out to enjoy the evening. There were presentations from the Pre-K class all the way up to Grade 11 who did a nice interpretation of 'Jingle Bells Rock'. Thank you to all of the organizers and all of the students who did an excellent job at the conert. Bumper Balls Come to Town - December 6, 2011
December 6 was a special day for all of our students in grades 1 to 12. The school rented these plastic play 'bumper balls' for the entire school to try out. There was lots of fun, laughter, and the odd 'battle scar', but the day was a roaring success. Thank you to all who helped make this day possible!
Usborne Books Are Coming to Warner School- Nov 9, 2011
Usborne Books will be at Warner School on Thursday November 17th(parent teacher interview evening) from 12:30- 8:00 pm. There are over 1200 titles to choose from in the Usborne catalogue. Your books will be delivered to the school withing 2-3 weeks from the Literacy Fair. A portion of the sale of books will go to the Warner School Fundraising Account. Hope to see everyone out on Thursday November 17th.
Remembrance Day Ceremony - Nov 8, 2011
Warner School will be holding it's Remembrance Day ceremony on Thursday November 10, 2011 at 10:30 am in the school gym. Parents and community are welcome to attend.
Halloween 2011 Pumpkin Carve a Big Success

The annual pumpkin carve was another huge success. Started in 1994, this activity brings together students of all ages in a fun activity that celebrates our small school community. Thank you, as well, to all community who came out to watch and/or volunteer to help at this event. Your support and assistance was greatly appreciated.

Halloween Costume Parade and Pumpkin Carving

Warner School will be holding it's annual Halloween costume parade and pumpkin carving Monday October 31, 2011 starting @ 1:45 pm with the parade of costumes followed by the pumpkin carving and coloring contest in the assigned spirit group rooms. At 3:15 pm we will gather in the gym to have the judging. Everyone is welcome to attend our Halloween festivities.
Pictures are Due back October 19 and Retakes are October 26th - October 17, 2011
The picture day on September 29 went very smoothly and the pictures have now gone out to all parents. Picture orders must be back by October 19 in the morning in order to be included in the school submission. Any students who are looking for retakes must have this same form returned by Wednesday as well. We hope all who had school pictures are satisfied with their pictures!
Warner Soccer Big Finale Approaches

Soccer is alive and well in Warner as our Grade 3-5 has been playing with great passion and enthusiasm. The season is set to wrap up on October 18th at 5:00pm in Milk River. Congratulations on a successful season!

Warner Receives Over $36,000 in Provincial Grant for New Playground - September 26, 2011
Prior to Friday, the community of Warner had raised almost $52,000. That amount has soared to almost $89,000 as a result of a $36,914 matching grant from the Community Futures Enhancement Program (CFEP). Warner School is now finally able to proceed with its plan of installing a new playground. The new structure will look amazing and we hope that our students enjoy this playground for years to come. Thank you to Alisa Thomas who has spearheaded this initiative!

Terry Fox Run Goes Well - September 23, 2011
Warner School, in a period of three short days, was able to raise over $450 for the annual Terry Fox Run. Reports have been coming in that this was one of the higher totals for schools in southern Alberta. Great job Warner! The route was changed mid morning to try and better combat the wind, but the temperatures were great for the 3km loop. Thank you and congratulations to all of our students and community members who participated in this run!

With amazing efficiency, the 2010/2011 yearbook committee has already completed the 2010/2011 yearbook. They are now on sale for $20. If you wish to purchase a yearbook, please contact the office to speak for a copy. Thank you to Mrs. Lindsay and Mrs. Heppler for coordinating the yearbook committee and great job for getting the yearbook completed so quickly!
LIT Sponsors Community Breakfast - September 7, 2011
On September 7, we had over 140 students, staff, and community take part in our annual pancake breakfast. The event ran with great success and Warner School would like to thank LIT for their generous sponsoring of this event. We were also able to raise a little over $400 for the sponsorship of our Zimbabwe boy, Nisbert Mlambo. Thank you to all for the great success.
